April 14-17, 2014

Hello! Here are the plans for our short four-day week:

Mrs. Krause’s Music Classes

Kindergarten will test their knowledge of The Magic Flute and keep practicing their music for the spring concert.

First grade will be studying The Sorcerer’s Apprentice by Paul Dukas. Did you know that the story of the sorcerer’s apprentice dates back to ancient Greece and was set to poetry by the great German poet Goethe in 1797?

Following their study of Rossini’s opera La Cenerentola, second grade will see the same story in a ballet by Prokofiev (Cinderella.)

Third grade will continue studying orchestral instruments with Britten’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, and start a new project: building original instruments! Assignment details will come home on a handout.

Fourth grade will study Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin and Fanfare for the Common Man by Aaron Copland.
